SPJ $1,500 Virginia journalism scholarships

Applications are being accepted through April for two journalism scholarships of $1,500 each, available to rising juniors or seniors attending a Virginia college or university.

Last year, Arielle Retting, editor of RUWhim.com, became the first Radford student to win one of these awards.

The Virginia SPJ, SDX Educational Foundation awards the scholarships annually, with support from Society of Professional Journalists, Virginia Pro Chapter. Applications must be postmarked on or before May 1, 2012.

Scholarship winners will be recognized in June at the annual George Mason Banquet, which also honors a person who has supported freedom of the press and contributed significantly to Virginia journalism.

For details, see the Virginia SPJ blog.
